Selena began her career in music when she was eight an old. Her father started the band. Selena, her siblings Abraham junior and sister Suzette were drummers. Selena sang for the group. Selena Y Los Dino, the group she played with was known as Selena Y Los Dino. The band also played at wedding fairs, as also at restaurants. Selena didn't have a great time in her childhood because the band needed a lot of time. Their father Abraham was determined to inspire his children and make them passionate musicians. Abraham senior was a member of Los Dinos, the band which started the whole thing. Selena Y Los Dinos were officially established in 1981. It was Quintanilla's family's main business, and their primary source of revenue. Quintanillas were determined despite the beginning financial challenges to be an established band. Selena Y Los Dinos achieved popularity throughout the Western States in the latter part of the 1980s. Selena's first success came in 1986 when she won prizes for Female Vocalist of The Year and Performer Of The Year at Tejano music Awards. Selena Y Los Dinos continued to win prizes of Tejano music awards, as well as gaining popularity and recognition.
